A viral video from Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly containing derogatory remarks against Dr B.R. Ambedkar and a particular community sparked public outrage. Police acted swiftly, arresting the main accused, Vinod Kumar Verma, and registering a case under strict legal provisions, including the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The incident was reported from Golanpara village under the jurisdiction of Dostpur Police Station. According to officials, the video, which surfaced on social media on June 14, showed a young man making objectionable comments against Dr B.R. Ambedkar and using casteist language directed at a specific community. The circulation of the video generated significant public outrage and heightened tensions in the area.
Following the video's emergence, police immediately took cognizance of the matter. Acting under the directions of senior officers, a police team was constituted to identify the individual seen in the footage. After verification, authorities arrested the primary accused, identified as Vinod Kumar Verma.
Police further stated that another individual involved in recording and circulating the video has also been identified. Legal action against that person has been initiated, and further proceedings are underway.
Circle Officer Vinay Kumar Gautam of Kadipur said that strict charges have been invoked against those accused of attempting to disturb social harmony. He confirmed that provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have been included in the case. The accused was produced before a magistrate and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Providing details of the case, Vinay Kumar Gautam stated, “On June 14, a video from Golanpara village under Dostpur Police Station jurisdiction went viral on social media. The video contained casteist expressions and objectionable remarks against Dr B.R. Ambedkar. The wanted accused has been arrested, and legal action is being carried out in accordance with the law.”
